Where did I get my furniture? 04-01-2009

Firstly, I have to thank everyone who left such sweet comments on my last home blog post!! I had no idea so many of you liked home decor and wanted to see more of what Doug and I are doing! :-) And to hear that someone was inspired (hi Vania!) to paint their banister after seeing the before/after pics of ours, is just..wow..totally cool!!  To be honest, it was a little scary posting some of our decor choices up since I know decorating is a very personal thing and everyone's taste is different...what I think is totally fabulous, someone else might think is the ugliest thing they've ever seen.  I'm sure there are some of you out there that feel that way so thanks for being nice and keeping quiet :-)

So, the number one question I seem to be getting is..."Where did I get my furniture?" I didn't post it last time because I wanted to get "clearance" first for something that I wanted to be able to extend to all my blog peeps. More on that later...keep reading! So, a few months ago, I was browsing through Elle Decor Magazine looking for design inspiration. I had a VERY hard time finding a furniture store that suited the style I was after and wondered if I would ever find it! I knew what I liked...but I just couldn't find it us so I kept looking. So, as I was flipping the pages of the magazine, I came across this ad for a furniture store...OMG...it was EVERYTHING that I had envisioned!! The store was called RoomService and conveniently enough, they had a store in Los Angeles (and Palm Springs as well). So, that weekend Doug and I made a trip out to L.A. to check it out and see if we could finally get some furniture!

When we entered the store, a lovely girl by the name of Liberty Grammer (how freaking cool is her name??!!) greeted us. We looked around and I immediately fell in love with a million different things. On top of that, it was right after the holidays and they were having an insane sale...icing on the cake! I was cautious because Mr. Lerit (like I've already mentioned) is ultra conservative and I was afraid he was going to say "I hate it all..let's leave". But, obviously that didn't happen :-) Liberty helped us with all the questions we had and gave us great insight into things we never would have that of..she helped us customize pieces (such as the size of our dining table) to fit in our home and make it work for us. John, the owner, came in a little later as we were wrapping up our order and was so nice to us as well. We left a few hours later, excited and nervous for our new furniture.

Fast forward to now, we have all of our pieces that we ordered and I can say without hesitation, that RoomService is the BOMB!! On top of offering unique, awesome furniture, they have OUTSTANDING customer service and are just totally rad! As I mentioned last week, the rest of our furniture came in this weekend. John came over to check out everything but to ALSO talk with me about the cool deal that he wanted to extend to all of my blog readers/friends/family/etc. So, here is the scoop...John has been gracious enough to extend a 15% discount for the next YEAR to anyone that mentions "trista lerit". How totally awesome is that!!??  So, this weekend, get your booties down to RoomService and get something ultra fab for your pad..you deserve it :-)  Oh, and make sure you ask for Liberty...she is the coolest chic ever and has been so helpful to me throughout this whole process..she works only on the weekend and is there every weekend (I think).  And if she isn't there, ask for John!

If you live out of state but still love the furniture at RoomService, don't fret!  John works with clients from all over the country so just contact them and tell them what you want!  RoomService also does custom furniture (my pink couch and two white arm chairs) were custom so if you have a clipping saved of a piece that you found in a magazine, send it to them and they'll give you a quote!  Or if you see something on their website that you like but the dimensions don't work for your space, ask them to change the dimensions for you and they'll give you a new quote (that's what we did with our dining table).  You can email Liberty at : liberty_roomservice@yahoo.com

Now for some more furniture pics!

Excuse the ugly rug pad under the sofa..we returned our area rug because it didn't match our sofa.  Word of advice..do not buy things like rugs until you get your major pieces in..I learned this lesson the hard way..thank goodness Macy's let us return it!

Another piece of advice..when buying custom furniture that will be in velvet, make sure you bring a piece of the fabric home and test it from all different angles of light.  Velvet is a beautiful yet tricky fabric...at one angle it looks one color and then you flip it and it becomes a totally different color!  Doug and I brought the swatch home but didn't "test" it so were a little surprised at the color of the couch.  We were expecting it to be a navy blue but because of the finicky nature of velvet, the couch looks a different shade of blue depending on what angle you're looking at it.  We're totally digging the color now but it took a little getting used to!

I was a little nervous to order these chairs in white..but I love the look of white!

I was planning on putting these chairs in a totally different place but John's wife came in and rearranged the room to make it flow better...I would have never thought of laying out the room this way so I owe a huge thank you to her!  p.s.  A few people asked where I got my lamps...Home Goods of all places!!  Most of the time when I go there it's blah but every once in awhile, I find some treasure :-)

This dresser sits behind our dining table so it was a little tricky getting this pic..you can kind of see our dining table in the mirror to get an idea of the placement.
haha..our bed!  Can you believe that Doug actually picked this bed?  This wasn't my first choice because there was another bed that I loved but Doug didn't like that one so being the good wife that I am, I gave in :-)  Not that it took much arm twisting..I love the bed!
I especially love the attention to detail..

Lastly, when we got our house painted, the painters removed all the door knobs.  I thought it was a good opportunity to switch out the knobs (our house was mixed with gold and silver knobs..me no likey!).  So, after much research, we found something that we totally love!  I think the door knobs make a huge difference..what do you think?

Before    and    After

Don't forget..15% off at RoomService when you mention "trista lerit"...ask for Liberty or John.
