As most of you know, Doug and I celebrated our 4 Year Wedding Anniversary a few weeks ago. Normally, I can guess what Doug will get me for our anniversary but this year..I really had no idea! Nor did I really have a "desire" for anything in particular which was great for Doug since I had zero expectations :-) So what did he get me? That's right..a box of Cocoa Puffs :-) Imagine me sitting in the restaurant with Doug enjoying a lovely dinner (okay, dinner didn't even arrive yet..I wanted my gift now!). Doug tells me to open my present and it's a box, a lightweight box. I thought he was trying to throw me off by putting a gift certificate to I don't know..Louis Vuitton or Christian Louboutin in a box and make me think it was something else. But when I opened it up and saw the Cocoa Puffs box, I squeeled with delight!!! Why you ask? Well, let me explain. Doug and I love dogs and especially love our little guy Mochi. We've always talked about maybe one day getting another one to add to our little family. However, Doug being the "mean" one, would always say "No, we need to wait till Mochi's older" or "We need to get the house done before we can even think about getting another dog" or "I don't know when we can get another Dog". But in the times when we would talk about this imaginary dog that we would one day get, we would discuss what type of dog (Doug insists it had to be a Shih Tzu like Mochi) and also what color we would get and what name we would give it. In one of our more recent future doggy discussions, we decided that when we did get another shih tzu, it would be a chocolate brown Shih Tzu. We had fun coming up with names for it like "Choco Taco, Count Chocula, or Cocoa Puff Diddy. That's right...Cocoa Puff Diddy. If you guessed that Doug got me a Chocolate Brown Shih Tzu, you are correct!! When I opened the Cocoa Puff Box, this was inside: Doug had contacted a breeder in Arkansas who bred Chocolate Brown Shih Tzu's a couple of months ago and they had a litter that would be ready a little after our anniversary. We got to choose from three girls (oh yeah, in our past discussions, we decided we wanted a girl). It was hard to choose, but we finally decided on one that was nicknamed "Miss Laidback". You'll see why this is funny later. Below is one of the pictures Doug had in his little "Our New Addition" packet of her: Doug and I didn't actually choose her until we saw another picture of her. I requested a "natural" light picture from the breeder since flash can sometimes affect the way something really looks. So then she sent us the pic below...and we were SOLD!!! How cute is her little tongue sticking out..we actually wondered would she be cute if she didn't stick her tongue out??
Soon after we decided on which little girl we were going to get, we started thinking of names. The obvious choice would have been Cocoa Puff but when it came down to it, I just wasn't feeling the name anymore. So, the name search began and nearly drove us insane! With Mochi, it was so easy. I came up with the name before we even got him when Doug and I were having Sushi one day. We were eating Mochi ice cream for dessert and it just hit me, "lets name our future dog Mochi!" Doug agreed and that was the end of that. However, for our little hairy princess, it was a long and painful process. We finally came up with some contenders that we were both happy with...Ichiban (because I wanted a name to go with Mochi) and Lila (because the first picture we saw of her she was on a purple blanket..purple=lilac=lila). After much discussion and looking at her pictures, we decided on Lila because we thought it was a sweet and girly name for our sweet little girl. This picture was sent to us right after she had her first bath. The breeder emailed it to us and said that she was quite "spunky" after her bath. How cute is she?? We were supposed to get our little rascal last week but she was a little too small so we had to wait...until yesterday! That's right, I picked her up from the puppy transport people (who knew they had services specifically for driving puppies around to their destinations?!) I was immediately in love the first moment I laid eyes on her..she was adorable and still very tiny!! I sat in my car for a bit just soaking her in trying to get a sense for her personality. When I brought her up to my face, she immediately started giving me kisses..a million little licks at the fastest rate I think I've ever witnessed licks being given. She then started attacking my fingers and shirt with her tiny little teeth..they are seriously the size of little specs of sand but boy do they hurt! She was getting a bit rambunctious when I called Doug to let him know that I had her and that she was okay. I told him that I didn't think Lila was an appropriate any longer for this spunky little girl we had on our hands. I said she was more of a "Spunky Brewster"..immediatly that sounded like the perfect name but I knew that we'd eventually just call her Spunky or Spunki (Doug likes it with an "i" to go with Mochi) and I don't know if I just like the name "Spunki". So, our little girl is still without an official name but that's not going to stop me from officially introducing her to all of you! Here she is..my spunky little princess!! and here she is after emitting lots of "Spunki" power!!! She sticks her tongue out a lot..I love it :-) Is she not the most precious Chocolate Shih Tzu you've ever seen? The past 24 hours with her have been quite eventful..but I'm too tired to give you a play-by-play now. More on that in my next blog post for her. Before I go, I HAVE to thank my wonderful, sweet, thoughtful amazing husband for giving me the most wonderful gift EVER!!! I love you so much sweetheart and I'm so happy to see our little family grow!! Also, I have to thank Marilyn our breeder for being so great and taking such good care of our little girl for us ! I gotta go check on my little hairy rascal now but check back later tonight for a beautiful wedding I shot this past weekend! |
